Zebra Print and Peac Signs.

We had Young Women's Personal Progress night or something like that a couple weeks ago. One of the Young Women asked me to teach her how to make cakes. She came over one day and looked at pictures for inspiration and ideas. Then she came over one day to make the cake and fill it. She came a third day and we shaped and decorated. I didn't do really much of anything except shape the cake. She did such a good job. I wanted to show pictures of the cake because it's a really fun cake.

Taking a Nap in the Sun

This horse is crafted out of gum paste. So is the fence. In fact, everything on this cake is edible. The horse is probably the most difficult thing I have ever made. It was an adventure but it was worth it. This cake is a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and chocolate fudge frosting.

Spa Cake

So, we have three Female teachers retiring at Shelley High School. They asked me to make a cake for them. I made a sheet cake that was plain for everyone to share and eat and then I put this on top. The whole thing is edible, and I made all of it by hand on my own. I was really nervous because last time my Sister in law helped me with the lion and did the hardest parts. The Hippo and cosmetics are made out of Gum Paste and the bubbles are made out of fondant. I sprinkled some edible glitter on some of the bubbles for some shimmer because we all know bubbles shine. The zebra print is one of the new sugar sheets made by Wilton. They are really convenient and easy to use. You have to be a little careful because sugar sheets are harder and stiffer than fondant. I was really pleased with the results.

Relief Society Cakes

This year I had the opportunity of being in charge of the relief society birthday dinner for our ward. I quickly said I would make the cake because I wanted to have fun and I hate sheet cake from the grocery store it's way to sweet and has more frosting than cake on it. My friend also needed a cake for her ward so I made a small version of the one I was making for my ward for her to take. She was going to help me but her baby was in the hospital with RSV. Her baby is good now.

This cake is a raspberry truffle cake. I like to think it's my signature cake. I made a chocolate fondant to cover it. It has gum paste flowers to decorate, giving it a spring look. I was kind of excited about my flowers since they are my first gum paste flowers. I was going to take a class on how to do flowers but have been to busy and now have to wait till fall when the class is offered again. But until then these will have to do. I got the insperation for the cake from the book my mom and dad got me for christmas.
